What problems show up on the 2007 Toyota Sienna?

83 of 352 filings named Body / frame (24% of the file). That is what owners wrote, not a shop diagnosis of the vehicle in the driveway.

Second is Engine (45 reports).

There are 10 official safety recalls on this year. They were filed about Transmission / driveline and Tires. Check the VIN at nhtsa.gov — a campaign on this page can still be open on a specific truck.

The 2006 has 983 reports on file; this year has 352. A smaller lifetime total is not a clean bill of health. If you need a fairer comparison, use the equal-time view.

What to check before you buy a 2007 Toyota Sienna

A useful visit to this page takes five minutes. YearTell does not score years and cannot see the vehicle in front of you.

  1. Look up the VIN for open recalls at nhtsa.gov. This year has 10 campaigns on file below.
  2. Body / frame. Look for rust, collision repair and body gaps that do not match a clean truck.
  3. Engine. Have a shop check for oil consumption, coolant leaks, rough idle and unusual engine noise.
  4. Airbags. Confirm the airbag light behaves normally and that open airbag recalls are closed.
  5. Skim a few owner reports below for Body / frame. Look for the same symptom repeating.
  6. Take that list to a mechanic. Do not turn the complaint total into a score.

The contact owns a 2007 Toyota Sienna. While the contact’s wife was pulling into the parking space, the transmission shifter was shifted into park(P), and the vehicle suddenly rolled forward approximately four feet. The parking brake was activated, preventing the vehicle from crashing into a parked vehicle. The vehicle was towed to the residence. While examining the vehicle, the contact determined that the shifter cable bushing had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer and local dealer were notified of the failure. Additionally, previously while driving there was smoke coming from the engine compartment and the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was towed to the local mechanic who diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the oil cooler line had failed causing engine oil to spill from the engine. The rubber oil cooler line was replaced with an updated improved oil cooler line, and the vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was 170,000.

Something under the hood caught on fire while I was driving with my son, and I pulled over. I was stopped at a red light when I first noticed smoke when I was looking in the rearview mirror. The gauges and lights never indicated anything was wrong, which I was looking at while the car was smoking and I was trying to find a place to pull over. There was smoke billowing up from the hood and all around and in the back of the van. By the time the fire department got the fire out, most of the front was melted. When pulling over the brakes were hardly responsive. The vehicle is at the wrecker and has not been inspected.

As a result of the transmission cooler being a part of the radiator system, the transmission cooler ruptured while driving causing immediate loss of power and the engine to overheat. This malfunction also caused coolant and transmission oil to contaminate the engine compartment as well as the transmission. This is a major iengineering flaw and safety issue as I was on the interstate when it happened and was stranded on the side of the highway until help could be obtained.

While driving my 2007, Toyota Sienna on a sunny afternoon, the spare tire dropped from under the vehicle. Specifically, while I was driving in the parking lot of the local international airport, I drove over a speed bump (about 5 mph) and heard a loud THUMP. When I looked in the rear view mirror, I noticed my spare tire on the road. Upon retrieval of the tire I noticed some rusty metal parts, adjacent the tire, that appeared to have been broken loose from under the car. Thankfully I was not on the highway when this happened and that no one was behind me. Someone could have been killed or seriously injured. While completing this document I learned that my vehicle was recalled for the aforementioned.

The rubber part of the VVT-I oil line appears to worn and leaking. There is a Toyota Campaign to replace this faulty designed oil line with a full metal line, but for some reason my 2007 Toyota Sienna VIN is not showing up with this campaign. The oil will leak from the engine and cause failure. Please re-check which vehicles are impacted by this Toyota design problem in this VVT-I oil line.

Frequently asked questions

What are the most common problems on the 2007 Toyota Sienna?

Owners named Body / frame most often — 83 of 352 reports (24%). That is the NHTSA file, not a diagnosis of every vehicle.

Are there recalls for the 2007 Toyota Sienna?

NHTSA lists 10 safety recall campaigns. They were filed about Transmission / driveline and Tires. Check the VIN at nhtsa.gov; a campaign on this page can still be open on a specific vehicle.

What should I inspect before buying a 2007 Toyota Sienna?

Look up the VIN for open recalls. Look for rust, collision repair and body gaps that do not match a clean truck. Then skim owner filings for the same symptom and take that list to a mechanic.

Does a high complaint count mean I should skip this year?

No. Counts are reports people chose to file and they are not adjusted for sales volume. YearTell does not publish scores or a list of years to skip. Inspect the vehicle.
